The 'Turning-Free-Code-Proprietary Foundation' (Linux/Microsoft Foundation)
ALMOST 3 years ago Dr. Andy Farnell explained how Free (as in freedom) code was being harvested for the benefit of the likes of Microsoft, usually through sieves (e.g. GitHub) or front groups such as the Linux Foundation (LF), now thoroughly infiltrated by Microsoft.
More recently we showed that LF was getting out of "Open Source", not just Linux. "Open Software" is what it promotes now. The word "Source" is being abandoned and the LF now gives only about 2% of its budget to the "L" in its name ("Linux"). On top of that, LF has been helping Microsoft by outsourcing most code to a GPL violation engine and making webforms that ask people for their "github" account (as if writing or publishing code anywhere but Microsoft does not qualify).
LF will basically become just as sinister as its corporate sponsors (that control it; the money buys them seats on the Board) and nowadays the "LF is encouraging the strip-mining of OSS," somebody tells us, "rather than the cultivation of (and investment in) FOSS by going out of its way to enforce neither the license nor the trademark." [1, 2, 3]
Know your friends and your enemies. LF may not be an enemy, but it's no friend either. It denies contributions or access to code in at least a dozen countries (since Donald Trump was US President). It is subservient to a government, not communities. █
