Richard Matthew Stallman, or rms (RMS), Turns 72 This Coming Weekend
This coming Sunday he deserves a cake
RMS gave many talks this year. He also thwarted some smear campaigns and Linux Foundation-connected nonsense that's meant to marginalise him and his message (history, philosophy etc.), so we're happy to see him turning 72 despite a medical condition (cancer).
Awards won by RMS as recognition for his work include the MacArthur Fellowship, ACM Grace Murray Hopper Award, EFF Pioneer Award, ACM Software System Award, and Internet Hall of Fame Induction. He also has dozens of Honorary Doctorates, awarded for actual accomplishments, not accumulation of wealth and/or political power. There are many other awards*. The list is long; not many scientists have such 'bragging rights'.
Long live RMS... and an early "happy birthday". RMS himself revealed his year of birth** 42 years ago. It's not a secret.
Don't let important people get 'brigaded' out of view. The "cancel mob" does not go after bad people. It typically goes after influential people. This seems to be about jealously and the remedy is seen to be distraction and destruction of people who did well. RMS is not a perfect person (no person is perfect), but he contributed so much. █
