X11 is Free Software
"I do use X11 for tasks that need a graphical interface. I have no preferred graphical environment or window manager. Since my own practical interest in using graphical environments is small, I don't want to spend time comparing them. In fact, what I use is Maté. (The accent is used in English, with this word as well as some others, to indicate a foreign word in which the final "e" is not silent.)" -Richard Stallman
Richard Stallman's personal site says that "[a]s of 2022 I use a Thinkpad x200 computer", which isn't too surprising. Many in the FSF have similar preferences.
No matter what IBM says ("Thinkpad" got sold to a Chinese company, Lenovo), X11 - and 'sibling' projects - is Free software and anyone can legally fork it. This was discussed yesterday in IRC.
Whether you agree (e.g. on politics) with the person/s forking it doesn't matter. CoCs don't matter. This isn't "Ethical Source", this is Free software. Everyone can fork it, even people you abhor. Undermining their efforts by other means is an entirely separate thing. █
