"Linux" Sites That Went Astray
In measurable terms such as userbase, not mere "opinion" or "popularity" (a subjective yardstick), GNU/Linux has risen and is still rising. Whole nations are migrating to it.
Does this mean that more media sites will cover it? Well, that depends. Online media is, in general, having issues. This past week we mentioned BetaNews several times.
It looks like the decision to scuttle away BetaNews happened about 7 days ago, June 9 2025 (based on social control media). They don't talk about what happened, they just drop a "goodbye" hint out there. In recent years the site mentioned "Linux" as clickbait quite a lot. Then it became lazy and started doing this with slop (there is a cautionary tale here). Their LLM slop and anti-Linux FUD won't be missed. A lot of their stuff was pro-Microsoft puff.
But there are even worse things than shutdowns.
Take for example LinuxTechLab. We wrote about it earlier this year [1, 2, 3] because in recent years it became a spamfarm, then it turned into a slopfarm. Then, as recently as this month, it got even worse. Slop promoting Microsoft proprietary spyware in a 'Linux' site (slopfarm):
What does this have to do with Linux? Nothing.
Looking at the text and its structure, it's easy to see that it is LLM slop.
At this point what's the point of this site? Years ago it was on track. Now... see above. █
