The Calling
Sometimes in life you do something or do various things that don't matter to anyone. Some people are lucky enough to do something which matters to someone, e.g. spouse and kids. Some manage to do something beneficial to a lot of people. They help change things (hopefully for the better, and not just in their own mind). If they change a lot, then they may piss off a lot of rich people, who will possibly look for revenge or destruction. The right thing to do is keep pushing for change, not step away. If the reaction is disproportionate, this means that bad people will "burn out" and it'll backfire on them. Some will walk away and stop interfering; others will resort to self-destruction with self-harming moves (e.g. Streisand Effect).
Unless you believe in karma, people live only once. Some people won't get a chance to learn from their mistakes and redo things. This is fine. At the end people typically get what they deserve. Richard Stallman's latest talk was packed with people (about 500 people in spite of very short notice, announcement made only a single business day earlier). The people who tried to take him down are now disabled and ruined in all sorts of other ways (things we don't want to name here). Their Hubris cost them. A lot of that is a life-long condition, life-shortening too, so they will not get a second chance.
Alexandre Oliva has rejoined the Board of the FSF (he also shed off weight and is healthier now) and we had a good week in Court, as noted this morning. Persist and persevere, justice will come your way.
Do the right thing. Judges will typically see that. █
