We Are Already Fighting - With Considerable Success - SLAPPs in the UK
Back in May we explained that we already have a strategy by which to get Microsofters to compensate us for what they did. So far all the steps in the list have been successful (there are 10 steps there; we intentionally did not name them out in the open).
We reckon that we as a site will spend the next 2-3 years writing about it, maybe longer (sometimes new things happen along the way). We bought a new hard drive this week for backup purposes; we intend to tell the full story and explain to the public how SLAPPs work, give examples of SLAPPs, then show how to respond to them.
SLAPPs are a censored, suppressed topic. It's not easy to find information about SLAPPs. The information that does exist only shows a small fraction of SLAPPs. There's a lot of "extortion" and "protection money" going on.
In "SLAPPing back", dated 2023, Joshua Rozenberg said: "Last March — just short of a year ago — the justice secretary Dominic Raab launched what he called “an urgent call for evidence in response to the challenges presented by the increasing use of a form of litigation known collectively as SLAPPs — strategic lawsuits against public participation”. I explained the background at the time."
That reform didn't happen at the time, but now with Labour back in power it seems like a matter of time before they adopt the proposal and amend/forward legislation. At one point we shall contact local and national politicians on these matters. We already are in constant touch with British authorities; national security is at stake.
Techrights is a site about patents, Free software etc. But that is inevitably "activism", which means hybrid attacks will come our way. Thankfully we have many allies, including NGOs and other SLAPP victims. Together we intend to bring change. █
