The European Patent Office Cannot Attract Proficient Patent Examiners Who Master Their Domain
10 years ago the European Patent Office (EPO) sent threats to me and to many others. It was lawyering up against the media, hoping it would somehow stop all criticism. In a sense, that succeeded, but I haven't stopped since. IP Kat chickened out, its founder left, and it was then left at the hands of Team UPC, which did photo ops with Benoît Battistelli. In some sense Team Battistelli 'took over' the platforms which used to condemn and criticise EPO corruption.
There was a casualty other than the media however. People smart enough to master their domain of science (as evidenced by a track record of publication/s) could interpret these developments through the lens of common sense. It became easier see what the EPO had become. The EPO was bribing the media, bribing academia, and forcing workers to do illegal things. Such people would no longer pursue EPO jobs; they were not interested even if it paid more than universities.
António Campinos is just another super-corrupt official whose job its to cover up his own abuses and his predecessor's abuses. He and his buddies from the corrupt EUIPO (and a token Rowan from post-Brexit Britain) won't change this impression. They are part of the cover-up. They still attack the messengers instead of tackling the corruption. They are enablers and facilitators of corruption. █
