Stricter Enforcement of Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act is Sorely Needed
Microsoft's Washington layoffs are typically added to the WARN Windows portal of that state quite quickly, whereas California is months behind and its latest sheet (proprietary Microsoft file) omits a lot of layoffs, such as LinkedIn and Microsoft GitHub layoffs. California seems to be way too lax or lenient with corporations like these. The same can be said about other states we've checked, e.g. NC. So while rules and laws exist for transparency they are not properly enforced, which means companies like Microsoft get to hide what's happening and just serve false numbers to the media via its operatives. Nobody audits these numbers; many news sites and slopfarms parrot such figures for years upon years.
We don't really know how many people Microsoft is laying off this week, we only know how many in Washington it is disclosing (to the state). It might as well be 1,000+ worldwide, about 50+ in 20 different cities. Who's keeping track anyway?
At the moment, the US President that Microsoft is sponsoring is waging a war on open data pertaining to labour. He fires people who publish the data. █
