“Sideloading” Never Killed Anybody
"I don't want to be a Richard Stallman, I just want to be able to do whatever I want with my property, not what some mega corp, which is motivated to act against my own interests, authorizes me to." Message from yesterday.
"Cory Doctorow in 2011? Love him or hate him, this was Stallman’s message in 1983." Also yesterday (see Richard Stallman (RMS) Was Right About "Sideloading" in 1996).
There are many online discussions this week about the misnomer "sideloading" in relation to Android. There's a lot about it in our IRC channels as well.
Someone rightly points out: "As long as we’re calling installing software on the devices we own “sideloading”, the Googles of the world have already won any argument to be had."
The data collected from (or via) GAFAM on BILLIONS of users isn't just used by the governments for blackmail but also actual assassinations. As GNU points out, a lot of Google's own software is malware. Many people openly say so; it's not considered radical stance anymore. If security was a genuine goal, Google would not be exempted by Google. █
