The "Left" and the Right"
Again, we're not a political site, but that does not mean we don't get to complain about those which are (or try to politicise technical issues). Instead of dealing with the science, those who aren't good at it (e.g. no scientific background) wish to turn technology into politics. This is a problem. They try to win arguments based on politics, not based on technical arguments, non-dogmatic paradigms, or actual implementations with benchmarks to reason about. They try to get ahead using "office politics" (sometimes known as "networking") instead of actual accomplishments.
In the context of Computer Science (not Free software, the issue is a lot bigger and broader than programming and sharing; it's the same in the hardware sector), people should strive to deal with "the meat", not the kitchen or the chefs, cooks etc. But to a lot of people, who are misfits, this is difficult. Many misplaced symbolism ends up cladding otherwise technical projects. They implicitly hang a sign on their (digital) door: if you want to work with me or use my stuff, then you must agree with me on everything, not just the technical stuff. Some social control media is like this and actively encourages this. It makes workplace interactions harder. It slows down and generally curtails development.
Who stands to benefit from such an atmosphere, where some people shout "nazi" at people, the 'other ones' say "woke" or "antifa" or whatever, and there is little room for collaboration because no two people in the world agree on every single thing? This is the sort of garbage trotted forth by Microsoft Lunduke and splinter groups that lose millions of dollars while betraying their own alleged principles (e.g. by legitimising Microsoft Lunduke and platforming Microsoft Garrett).
Over the years I've learned to mostly ignore all this "wing" thing, which is an oversimplification and typically a distraction from the debate we need to have in technology. It poisons everything and we lose sight of the underlying issues, which impact everyone responsive of "wings". █
