Focusing on Patents
Today or tonight (not certain what time though) we'll publish some more EPO leaks, having published something this morning and prior to that a publication from the Central Staff Committee. Benoît Battistelli is gone, but his culture is not. Moreover, all his crimes are being covered up by António Campinos and European software patents - i.e. patents which are both illegal and undesirable - are being granted in greater numbers than ever before. A lot of them are being framed as "hey hi" something.
We'd like to focus a lot more on patents in the coming years. That's partly why we decided to cover the SLAPPs no more than once per day, even if it means that 1,000+ much-needed articles on that subject will take over 3 years to cover (we can jokingly call it "project 2030" and give ourselves up to 5 years to do that).
Patents, in particular ones covering software, are a big problem for all programmers, not just Free/libre-centric ones. At the moment the US is set to appoint an anti-35 U.S.C. § 101 patent trolls ally to run the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). The general public and the public interest do not play any role in politics.
The reason we cover the EPO so much is that it's close to home. The USPTO is also a major problem, but not for the same reasons. █
