Slopwatch: Fake Ubuntu 'Articles' and Google News Helps People Who Plagiarise Phoronix Using LLMs

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Oct 06, 2025

Today's Slopwatch deals mostly with fake "Linux" headlines and only with fake images, starting with the Serial Slopper:

Ubuntu Linux 26.04 LTS officially named Resolute Raccoon

Fake text, fake image, i.e. the usual from Fagioli. He's quite the "star" in Slopwatches.

Google News has meanwhile promoted the following pair of slopfarms with their fake images and almost identical titles, composed by LLMs:

Slop or fake: Gemini CLI on Kali Linux – A Guide to Automated Pentest Tasks

Slop or fake: Gemini CLI to Your Kali Linux Terminal To Automate Penetration Testing Tasks

What is the message here? And why are those headlines almost the same? Why does Google help two fake sites or slopfarms operated by the same rogue actors?

Why does Google News promote this fake article, where 100% of the "articles" are LLM slop with fake images and fake author names?

Slop or fake: Redox OS Roadmap: Rust-Driven Speed Boosts to Challenge Linux

They are already infesting Linux with Rust regardless.

Imagine being the person who assumes the above is a real article. They just copied the Phoronix article using LLMs about 30 minutes after it had been published. Michael Larabel can't possibly be happy about that.
