A "Never Slop" Policy in Quibble
About a week ago we wrote about FreeJS, LibreJS, and Quibble. The FSF has since then also added its voice and weight, as we expected. "One thing I want to call out about Quibble is our approach to AI/LLMs," said to us a developer. "We're taking a proactive but hands-off stance. There will be no direct commits from chatbots like Claude, Codex, or similar tools; every change in the repository must be made by a human who takes full responsibility for it."
"Quibble exists to push back against that kind of control. This isn't a "never use AI" [sic] policy, but a "never slop" policy. We do expect real human accountability, understanding, and intent behind every contribution - not a proprietary black box dropped into the codebase."
"At the end of the day, this is about keeping software engineering alive as a human craft while still respecting individual freedom in how people work. It's a hard balance living in 2026 as a software developer, but I think we've made the right call - and hopefully one that others can follow."

The "never slop" policy is similar to the one suggested by Linus Torvalds some months ago. Whether it is enforceable is another matter. █
