Chromium is indeed open source, but a form of corporate open source to which only other big companies can contribute, because development is far too quick and the codebase is far too complex for a small team of developers. I call it fake open source.

It is certainly not in the spirit of free software, if you as an individual cannot, in practice, exert your 4 freedoms anymore. That same problem nowadays exists with more software such as systemd, where you are dependent on big companies that do development and no real community develops the software anymore.

That's why I prefer to use other browsers and protocols (such as Gemini) and I only use the established browsers based on Blink and Gecko, when there is no other option. I hope that many more people will do that too, so we can take back the web as well as the internet from big companies.
