Spectres of What Came Before (re: "Reverberations of What Came Before" by winter)
You should go read this article. It's pretty good, and it inspired me to write this, which kind of seeks to contrast the author's experience with the smallnet to my own. You probably don't need to read it to understand this but you should anyway.
I'm not super big on talking about my age on the internet. Not entirely sure why. Maybe I'm insecure about it, or maybe I fear it'll shatter some illusion about my story I've crafted. Nonetheless, I'm young enough that a major event in my journey towards being an "online" person was registering for Instagram in middle school.

I Died It
The title of this post is taken from a comic I drew as a kid about a girl who dyes her hair pink. My older brothers found this comic hysterically funny, not, of course, because of my wit or great drawing, but rather my bad spelling. Haha.
The story of me changing my hair color begins 16 or 17 years later when Christopher asked me to marry him and gave me the most beautiful engagement ring I had ever seen -- three princess cut diamonds in white gold bordered by four accent diamonds on each side.

Setting up Misfin (by @cipres)
User @satch on BBS[1] created a front-end called Skylab[2] to the gemini-based misfin[3] mail protocol/service. If you're unfamiliar with misfin, it's e-mail for Gemini. So I decided to try it out.

Steam Next Fest - Day 5
Almost forgot to write up the one for today! I'll keep it short though, don't got a whole lot of time.

What a BBS Is
That's entirely fair; BBSs really encompassed a weird moment in time, reaching their zenith in the microcomputer era. This was the era of the 300, 1200, 2400 bps (bits per second) modem. If this seems slow, it's because it was. But slow compared to what? At the time, copper phone lines were the limiting factor. There were new tricks. Modems got slightly faster. But cable and fiber were years off.

hURLs come back to bite.
I have recently noticed on literally every gopher server which I have looked at does some funky stuff with HTML/XML/XHTML page which they generate for hURL support... I expect to be able to write a URL raw into a gophermap and have it just work, but, in practice, there are some major issues...

* Gemini (Primer) links can be opened using Gemini software. It's like the World Wide Web but a lot lighter.
