Excellent News: SoylentNews Raises $2,000 in a Day, Funding Problem Now "Solved." (Quoting NCommander)
THE other morning we said that "SoylentNews [was] Critically in Need of Donations" and this morning they write, via NCommander: So, just a follow up. According to matt, we got around $2,000 USD right now in the PBC overnight, and there are still more payments processing. I paid the Linode bill this morning. So, funding problem: solved. We should be set for the foreseeable future as far as money goes! Seriously guys, you stepped up, and I am thankful. Since I'm here, a quick update on what's going on: Right now, we're mostly just waiting for paperwork to go through as far as handing the site to a newly-created, not-for-profit. It's slow work and I'm not directly involved, but I've seen that there has been a fair number of articles on the subject so I'm pretty happy that everyone is aware of what's going on. I could write more, but I think I'm going to keep this short and sweet for now. Once I have a final total, I'll post it."
This probably serves to show how much readers care about and value SoylentNews. In our IRC network SoylentNews is cited every day, sometimes several times per day. It helps us keep on top of news and discover emerging stories. Some are posted later on in our Daily Links. There is this subtle and invisible inter-connectivity among independent sites.
SoylentNews has been under attack by very aggressive trolls. It's not hard to see why. We wrote about this about half a dozen times before, even in the sister site and in my personal site (several times). The core people of the site do good work, so some corporate interests or vandals (catspaw?) want to undermine them. They must stay strong, not divided, and never distracted by aggressive trolls. Don't try to appease the trolls. They're destructive by their nature, but they masquerade as organic "sceptics" or "opposition" (it is sometimes called concern-trolling).
Let's hope for another strong decade of SoylentNews. Keep up the great work and keep everyone informed. █
