Microsoft Windows Fell From 100% to Just 7.5% in Sierra Leone
Based on statCounter, which is back online
The dominance of Microsoft isn't quite what Microsoft wants its shareholders to believe. In some parts of the world Windows is already somewhat of a 'niche' and Google Search isn't losing market share despite Microsoft losing billions trying to make a dent. Take Sierra Leone for example. When all that chatbot (LLM) hype started, later rebranded as "Bing Chat" or "Copilot" or whatever (it fails, so they relaunch, re-announce, rebrand) Bing was measured at 3.44%. Now? 2.13%.
There are meanwhile mass layoffs for Microsoft in Africa, as we last noted last night.
When it comes to operating systems, statCounter says or sees Android at three-quarters of the market and Windows at around 7.5%.
What's making this extra painful for Microsoft is, Windows used to be at 100%. See below. █
