Edward Snowden's Leaks Proved That GCHQ Targeted Tor Network, So Why Not Other Security and Encryption Tools?
DEBIAN is the base or the 'template' upon which hundreds of operating systems are built, even Ubuntu and all its derivatives.
It should therefore interest us whether or not Debian is safe, or perhaps it has been infiltrated by crackers who may be state actors. Yesterday we looked back at a famous incident from 2008 [1, 2]. SSH was severely compromised and we now know that Debian expelled a cracker (Brocklesby) who had taken over SSH as a Debian package; Debian did not tell us about it. It was only mentioned briefly in debian-private
, i.e. a secret mailing list.
Today we look back at old articles such as this one:
There's also this leaked presentation:
Notice this slide:
Or this this other presentation about Tor:
"I will get to 2008 at some point," Daniel Pocock assures us. "The Brocklesby thing is just the start."
"Have they censored the debian-security and debian-devel lists now, as they already did with debian-project?"
"I'm surprised that nobody spontaneously began discussions about Brocklesby," Pocock adds. "His name is a bit unusual, maybe they have it in a filter for moderation in case it comes up."
Looking at this old thread, one can see the company that attacked our prior host (sending her threats; to me also) and another one who not only targeted our current webhost but also attacks my whole family. As this message put it: "Many people choose to be in central London but the people who choose to be out in the countryside near GCHQ may not be there for agricultural work."
Debian Account Managers must not be state actors. Any conflict of interest to that effect would discredit Debian as a universal operating system.
Either it's a very small world or few people who work/ed for Google (in the US, albeit coming from the UK) are strong proponents of GCHQ and would viciously attack anyone who can jeopardise - or merely bring up - GCHQ presence inside Debian.
This isn't "conspiracy theory" territories; it makes perfect sense for GCHQ (and NSA) to try to undermine the confidentiality of all communications. Even Tor is being targeted by them.
There have been many attacks on people who talk about this and even their families.
Hours ago Pocock wrote: "After all the years of harassment from rogue elements of Debian, the people who began attacking my family and I around the time my father died, including the defamation and insults distributed on 6 June, the day before voting, I personally feel that I am going to end up with the smallest number of votes or maybe no votes at all and I will probably be the first candidate eliminated from counting. Evidence has confirmed that there is a Debian suicide cluster. The people who impose themselves upon the careers of their co-authors and our families like this appear to revel in causing pain and grief. When predicted suicides occur in such a toxic culture, can we just call these Debianists murderers?" █
