Statement on Antisemitism in Our IRC Network and in Social Control Media
Just a month ago: (from 'Team Cancel Stallman', the manager of the petition to remove/ostracise him from society)
THIS site is not political and it opposes censorship, including in IRC (we only drafted a one-line policy in 2010). Having said that, there were cases in the past where people called for genocide and there are legal obligations associated with such views. Some of those calls came from militants who attacked my wife, attacked Daniel Pocock - yes, borderline death threats! - and attacked all sorts of people of Jewish roots (Perens, Appelbaum, Stallman, Moglen etc.), so brushing it off and ignoring the problem would become a liability to us.
British law (our site is based in the UK) does not permit some views to be expressed, albeit some people in 'Team Cancel Stallman' seem to have an issue with that.
Either way, people who publicly post antisemitic tropes would not paint themselves as the victims or throw stones inside glasshouses.
Techrights is not a political site and we always try to focus on tech in the #techrights
channel. Some trolls tried to change the subject of that channel to sex and a Microsoft pedophile (yes, convicted) tried to censor people in that channel, even a gay man who strongly opposes paedophilia.
In an ideal world nobody would have to be banned from IRC, but legal obligations do exist. █
