3.5 Years in Gemini

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Jul 13, 2024

GNU/Linux in Gemini since January 2021

DEPENDING on what key action or which seminal publication one "counts", today or this month marks 3.5 years since we joined Geminispace (Tux Machines only joined 2 years ago). We estimate that we've since then served over 10 million requests (made over Gemini Protocol, port 1965). A lot of those requests come from relatively technical people, i.e. the likely "target audience" and people who can be influenced to code or build or advocate a certain way.

Tux Machines needed to wait until moving to a new system, i.e. away from Drupal. That finally happened in summer of 2022.

Now, or since years ago, it has been possible to get all the news one finds here and in Tux Machines from Gemini clients, sans material that's difficult to serve (with parity) to a Gemini client because of intentional limitations.

It's important to speak about and spread the word (about software freedom, BSD, GNU/Linux, patents etc.) in a medium that's strategic and growing.

This is what Lupa's index looks like at this moment.

We'll probably stay in Gemini for the next decade. Gemini rocks!
