Drawabox Day One
I've decided to start the Drawabox art fundamentals course, and blog my progress as I go. This is mostly to force me to get over myself as far as feeling incompetent. Uncomfortable does a very powerful demonstration in his video on the "50% Rule" (which is that you must spend as much time drawing For Its Own Sake as studying and doing exercises) where he draws a cool monkey businessman and then tears it to shreds. It's a very visceral proof that you can draw just for its own sake, without caring about the final product.

Alien: Romulus (2024)
It should be said up front that I am a huge fan of the mainline Alien franchise. The first movie contends for a place in my top 5 movies of all time, possibly top 3. The rest are, admittedly, meh, but I enjoy them all the same.
One major draw for me is in the comparison with previous Alien movies. All these movies share the same general formula: wage-slaves and/or para-military goons (and one corpo-android) in space, wreckage is found, someone gets facehugged, alien goes through puberty, people die, heroine escapes through quick-thinking and determination. But each movie is a product of its time. Like James Bond or Batman, every generation gets an Alien, and its in the differences between each that you can find the real content.

Just got home from Baltimore.
We spent a lovely weekend with friends as we prepare for a major move out of the area... more on that later. But our dear friends literally wined and dined us, and it was probably the best two days we've spent in a long time. Now on with the task of getting the house ready for market.

terms, concepts, trends, and textural filigree
Honestly, I am just having coffee and happy (enough) to NOT write or have a *dedicated* form of writing these days. I've come to one conclusion, writing in a local editor is A+++ #1 all the way. I just click open GNOME Editor and I am off to the races when I want to write some words. Copy/paste/(publish?) with it what I will, I keep it .txt so I can do whatever with it.

Hybrid projects: diagnosing a contradiction
What do we mean by "hybrid projects"?
There are two ways of creating a product in a project: predictive and adaptive. The adaptive approach is also called Agile, and the people in the Agile community refer to the predictive approach as waterfall.
For a few years now, some people and resources have been talking about a third alternative they call "hybrid"; a combination of the two primary approaches. The best of both worlds, they say.

A tinylog script for gmCapsule
Figured I'd publish the script I made for my tinylog page, in case anyone else wants to make use of it.
Mostly wanted a way to make short posts directly from my gemini client, rather than having to ssh to my server and edit a text file, manually format things, add a date, etc.
