statCounter Shows "WIntel" Chasing a Dying Market
Fewer than 20% of Web-connected devices in Africa are still desktops/laptops:
Microsoft and Intel are in "Serious Trouble" (with capital letters). Windows isn't selling or hardly selling. Even PCs saddled with Windows - whether the customer wants Windows or not - aren't selling well anymore. Microsoft tries to come up with new ways to force people to use Vista 11, which is unreliable and user-hostile. Hype won't cut it. "WIntel" is unfit for purpose... for those who don't need some expensive computer for "gaming" or "video editing" or whatever. Many people just use computers to browse the Web and check E-mail.
Intel has been circling down the drain since Vista 11 came out:
Merely rebranding a PC as "AI PC" didn't work. Sure, it helped make charts like this one:
But that's just like reclassifying servers as "clown computing" and then rebrand that too - yet again - as "hey hi workloads" (or some inane words to that effect).
Judging by press reports that are recent, "AI PC" was basically a massive failure [1, 2, 3] for several quarters in a row [1, 2] and even Manchester United seems to have shelved that passing fad.
Looking at various other figures from statCounter, not only Windows is in trouble; Bing and Edge are falling and Microsoft acts as if it's running out of money (this is bluff) while Scam Altman chases bailouts. █
