What Happened to the Open Source Initiative (OSI) Elections: Leaking Information of Members (Even in 2025)
More nonsense about Hey Hi (AI), which OSI has been openwashing on Microsoft's payroll
Hey Hi (AI) is typically nothing but proprietary spyware that lies. Does the OSI really wish too associate with proprietary spyware that lies? Right now?
Bad taste.
The OSI seems very eager to distract from the scandals (see the previous part and the one from two days ago, set aside the previous chapter), so let's expedite things a little and talk about what they hope to distract everyone from.
For the second time in a few days Bradley M. Kuhn (SFC), who had decided to run for the Board, wrote about election weirdness. It's kind of funny to see him (who had attacked the FSF's leadership years ago) having a go at it; here's what he wrote yesterday:
Voting closed on MON 2025-03-17 at 10:00 US/Pacific. One hour later, candidates were surprised to receive an email from OSI demanding that all candidates sign a Board agreement before results were posted. This was surprising because during mandatory orientation, candidates were told the opposite: that a Board agreement need not be signed until the Board formally appointed you as a Director (as the elections are only advisory —: OSI's Board need not follow election results in any event. It was also surprising because the deadline was a mere 47 hours later (WED 2025-03-19 at 10:00 US/Pacific).

In the meantime let's turn our attention to the OSI public list and privacy blunder.
Here is the link to the public OSI member list to use at your discretion, prudent readers (no passwords or anything like that there). Why on Earth, despite already knowing about this data leakage blunder, has the OSI not fixed this? We've waited for weeks already, assuming they might belatedly remove it. But no... it's still there:
Then the OSI fancies itself "consultant" to "authorities" in some ludicrous buzzwords, advising the White House what to do. And do what? More buzzwords? Bruce Schneier already mocks them for it. █
