"But Corruption is Everywhere"
"Corruption is everywhere" falls under one of the more famous fallacies.
Yes, it's abundant for sure, but corruption is not everywhere, nor is it justified where it exists. The allusions or suggestions that corruption is inevitable or that there's no point trying to tackle corruption (or eliminating it would be unattainable) is similar to the lies promoted by proprietary software vendors (in relation to security, secrecy, defects etc.) and it relates to a broader societal issue. Some people belittle key accomplishments by resorting to "whataboutisms".
When people respond to journalism about corruption by interest-waiving handwaving we need to strike back with arguments about the importance of making corruption visible, known, and hence possible to address (and if those capable, e.g. politicians or media, still refuse to address it, then we subject them too to accountability/scrutiny).
"Corruption is everywhere..."
"Women cannot vote anywhere anyway..."
"Slavery works..."
"We'll always have Polio..." █
