Microsoft's XBox is Disintegrating, Executives Are Quitting
In recent hours alone:
- Xbox studios exec and former Rare boss resigns ahead of expected mass layoffs
- Xbox loses studio lead ahead of impending layoffs, chief of staff also departs
- Xbox Game Studios Boss Departs Amid Growing Concern Over Layoffs and Possible Studio Shutdowns
- Xbox Game Studios chief reportedly steps down as layoffs loom
- The Head Of Xbox Game Studios Resigns Ahead Of Mass Layoffs
- Chris Avellone says Xbox studios are increasingly concerned about layoffs
The news today focuses on Craig, not Louise, but both are leaving. See for example Xbox Games Studios loses two top execs, days after Microsoft gaming CEO calls for company "reset" and also remember that only months ago several more executives abandoned this ship. Several months further backwards (February) the two highest chiefs "left" and the late Friday spin was save-saving "damage control".
Now that the CEO admits XBox is unsustainable many worry about the scale of the impending layoffs and maybe disposal of the console.
We're basically witnessing the slow-motion "end of XBox". The thing dubbed "bloodbath" by Microsoft insiders is not limited to XBox. When will the CEO of Microsoft also admit that slop was all along unsustainable? █
