Microsoft European Development Centre (EDC) Next to be Culled?

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Nov 03, 2026

Good luck, the EDC in Dublin is slowly sunsetting as all the interesting projects move back to HQ.

Lately Microsoft has been shutting down many centres and facilities for good. Permanent closures. The company also asks 60,000 workers to leave and is borrowing a lot of money.

The above comment, which is unverified, suggested further Microsoft cuts in EDC. For some background: "Microsoft European Development Centre (EDC) [is] focused on engineering excellence and development of Windows Media Centre, security, anti-virus research, and the localisation of over one hundred products and services, from Microsoft Office to MSN and the Xbox 360, into over 30 languages."

No time for that anymore.

A day ago someone wrote in the Microsoft 'forums': "Switch to Linux. Microsoft will in the end."

No, Microsoft tries to hijack and undermine it. Microsoft has been partially successful at this. Watch how GitHub (Microsoft) is destroying Ubuntu [1, 2], as expected, along with Microsoft TPMs. █
