Bonum Certa Men Certa

Faked Diversity in 'Men-Only Clubs' (and Corporations)

Video download link

Upside-downSummary: Manufacturing a false impression that corporations and organisations are a lot more diverse than they really are will simply prevent them from actually improving diversity; minorities aren't being served by shallow PR tactics like the Linux Foundation's and IBM's

EARLIER this week we reposted two articles [1, 2] from the Free Software Fellowship. Those articles spoke about improper behaviour at the FSFE. It wishes to be seen as feminist and diverse, but the reality is exactly the opposite.

"Diversity needs to be authentic, not faked, or real rather than perceived (PR)."Similarly, racist and sexist IBM wishes to be seen as a diverse workplace. In Red Hat, for example, almost all the engineers are male, so they focus on less technical roles and paint the company differently, as we shall see tomorrow in OpenForum 'Europe' (IBM et al). The video discusses some of these issues and insinuates that subconscious guilt or the need to distract from reality drive some of these moves, which are sometimes tactless (like poorly-worded and leaked FSFE documents). In the case of the FSFE, there's a lot in common with the EPO, which is largely German and male (not just António Campinos and Benoît Battistelli, who allegedly drove out Ms. Brimelow, based on her departing words).

Diversity needs to be authentic, not faked, or real rather than perceived (PR). Sadly, in a rush to create straw men these causes have been weaponised by the greedy and powerful men who control much of the world's wealth and the lion's share of the large corporations.
