European Patent Office is Struggling With Recruitment (Maddening Corruption Turns Out to Lead to That)

Spread the word, yes but transparently and honestly

Summary: The Staff Union of the European Patent Office says it's "not a secret that the Office has been struggling in attracting talent"

TODAY we share a recent document, dated a week ago. The document speaks of recruitment woes at Europe's second-largest and previously-prestigious institution, the EPO (as a side note, Sirius 'Open Source' cannot recruit anyone because of the crimes; evidence of this crisis will be shown later this year).

"It is well-sourced in the sense that claims have extensive documentation that back those claims."The paper was issued by the LBDH committee, containing many self-referential (SUEPO, the union) links and some intranet links. It is well-sourced in the sense that claims have extensive documentation that can back those claims.

Spread the word, yes but transparently and honestly

The Office has announced on the intranet a new wave of recruitment and has called on your help in spreading the word across your network. It is not a secret that the Office has been struggling in attracting talent and surely can benefit from your help on this aspect.

We believe that for a successful and long-lasting working relationship, it is important to be transparent and honest from the very beginning. When spreading the word to your network, we therefore encourage you to help the Office in their endeavor by adding all the information the Office has omitted in the call for candidates:

- You can inform your network of how the EPO has the power to change the employment contract (i.e. codex service regulations) at will and does not hesitate to use that power to the detriment of staff while generally ignoring the input of social partners;

- You may wish to remind your network that SUEPO has needed to win legal battles in front of the ILOAT to uphold the rights to strike, to freedom of association and freedom of communication1;

- You can also talk about the slow career that lies ahead of them, the reduction of benefits and the ever increasing production pressure. In particular, you can highlight the D&I policies in place for female applicants which systematically penalizes their career progression especially when they have children. You can point them to the statistics highlighting how women have been discriminated against for years with regards to career progression. Additionally, you can indicate how the new education and childcare reform contributes to increase inequality in the Office;

- You can point to the suboptimal working conditions: hot desking, production pressure, micro- or erratic management, etc..;

- You can describe how the Office resembles more than ever a factory production line, which is endangering patent quality;

- And finally, you can mention how abusive some managers can be.

The employment conditions are still good enough to attract talented colleagues and it is important that they are fully informed of what they are signing up for. The EPO on the other hand, would do well to look into how to keep these colleagues onboard once the "honeymoon period” is over and how to improve employment conditions so as to reach their recruitment targets.

In the next few posts we'll publish some more EPO material, including videos. It seems increasingly clear that instead of curbing or undoing the damage done by Benoît Battistelli (from 2010 to 2018) António Campinos intends to carry on doing damage in his second term, which he basically bought (he bribed all the voters). His second term, another 5 years, started 4 days ago. Around the same time he bought himself the second term he quickly proceeded to crush the staff some more and pushed for a lot more European software patents, which are basically illegal (hence they created a fake and illegal kangaroo court known as "UPC").

In case it's not obvious, today's EPO is a den of corruption and crime. Some people become very rich from corruption and crime and the European Union does not just tolerate this but actively participates in it now. European citizens must put an end to it.
