Summary: OpenSUSE news from the past week (not much of it)
IT HAS been a quiet week for OpenSUSE, so expectation for substantial stories should be kept low. Someone has shared some more OpenSUSE wallpapers (part of a series) and SUSEGeek/SUSEUser did another HOWTO.
Novell sure deserves a lot of credit for work it has been doing on drivers (not just Greg but other kernel hackers whom Novell employs).

[D]espite the ongoing criticism Novell receives, it is once again their dollars that allow at least one full time developer to work on the project, in conjunction with a few hundred volunteers.
This was never denied by critics of Novell.
Some people continue to favor OpenSUSE, which is fair enough.
If there is one thing I favor openSUSE over MEPIS, it’s the network manager. It’s really simple and nice to use. Setting things up worked out smoothly unlike in MEPIS where it took a bit of “try and see if it blows up” to get it work.

These are the main reasons why I made the switch to openSUSE even though I don’t doubt that Fedora is a fine Linux distribution with a great community. For a distribution that releases every six months, they manage to maintain the right balance between bleeding edge software and stability. Their feature list is exhaustive as well and they’re usually ahead of Ubuntu in terms of implementing features. But its openSUSE for my taste and I think I’ll stick to it.
SUSEGeek/SUSEUser disseminates some release/planning notes for the next version of OpenSUSE.
As we are all still settling down with openSUSE 11.1 version of our favorite operating system, developers are already on the next big thing and the development of openSUSE 11.2 version seems to be hapening at a much faster pace. The lastest release is the openSUSE Milestone2.

Zonker, who is a bit of a baseball fan (can’t ever ignore his baseball cap), proposes combining this passion with OpenSUSE to the extent possible.
I love the idea of having openSUSE contributors converging on sporting events on Software Freedom Day and talking to people about Linux and openSUSE, but I wonder if giving out discs would be an efficient use of the discs.
One of the OpenSUSE folks shares some nice pictures of his experimentation with OpenSUSE on Symbian.
I present to you the openSUSE.org WRT widget application. Firstly I have to give credit to the guys and gals over at the Symbian Foundation,after all I did borrow (or should that be fork?) their idea. I based my app on their “Symbian on Symbian” widget, modified it slightly and hey presto!
