Microsoft Uses ‘Discount’ Propaganda to Keep Software Freedom Out of Scottish Hospitals

Summary: The NHS dives head first into Microsoft lock-in that puts lives at risk

THE NHS has been shameless about its love affair with Microsoft and nothing has changed because at times of cuts there is a pointless embrace of Vista 7. To make matters worse, “NHS Scotland has snubbed open source alternatives to re-engage with Microsoft after signing an Enterprise Agreement covering the deployment of Windows 7 on nearly 100,000 desktops.

“The three year contract penned this summer is estimated to be worth around £5m in total with 17 of the 22 health boards in Scotland signing up.”

So they put the lives of many in the hands of malware.

“That’s very short-sighted. £1m a year forever is an infinite sum,” writes Pogson about the ‘discount’ propaganda we've addressed before. █
