Yo Dawg, I Herd You Like Static
THE core of the Web site upgraded 4 weeks ago. We are now dealing with the wiki containing about 1,700 (or almost 2,000) pages, some short and some very long. Some are "meta" pages. A lot of Microsoft antitrust material is in there; that makes the wiki very important for history's sake. Some material is invaluable as it cannot be found anywhere else.
The wiki is ancient in relative terms; it was started about 15 years ago (I still remember that day!) and it was never properly tidied up due to a lack of time. The higher priority was covering new stories, i.e. news.
The wiki needed a lot of work for over a decade already. A lot of it still said "Boycott Novell" (Novell was sold in 2010, i.e. 13 years ago!) and there were compatibility issues with some "modern" Web browsers, probably due to the browsers rather than our site. We mentioned those issues last week.
The upgrade is still an ongoing process, but the majority of the tasks are completed.
At the end of this process every page should be back online and everything should be static, i.e. no resource pigs susceptible to DDoS attacks. This may take some time, especially as new code is required, e.g. bulletin generation and video management. We roll out our own. █
