Complexity Went Too Far
The systemd
mindset is a cancer (also a security threat)
The total number of blogs that move to static page/site generators is definitely increasing. Yes, it's a net gain (just like in Geminispace). One can guess why. It's a bit like a viral effect, wherein when some blogger you read decides to do it you then decide that it makes sense and is worth pursuing. If enough momentum or inertia persists, maybe WordPress will become a lot smaller. I was deeply involved in WordPress 20 years ago, I managed more than a dozen WordPress sites, but I lost interest in it a decade ago. It's bloatware now. Also, a lot of the time WordPress gets in the way (restricting productivity) instead of just getting out of the way, allowing writers to focus and not worry.
Another thing worth noting is that "small (or sm0l) web" mindset is spreading, as more technical bloggers dabble in alternative protocols and/or try to make their Web sites leaner. We gave some examples of that in recent Daily Links.
Complexity is related to bloat and it is bad for all sorts of reasons.
Let's change that. Let's get "slim".
Why not try it?
One simple way to dethrone monopolies is to reject the bloat they throw at us and create alternatives (or adopt existing ones).
For communication we like to use IRC, not blog comments or "apps". If you have an IRC client, come and say hello. █
