Interference in EU Elections and More Censorship Attempts
Trying to remove accurate information. Cui bono?
Today it's European Parliament election in Ireland* and Debian Developer Daniel Pocock is among those running. Pocock, as Candidate for Ireland's Midlands-North-West, will be busy pursuing or wooing voters. The Microsoft-funded SPI (American company) seems to be trying to interfere in foreign elections.
It seems like something bigger may be going on, set aside Ryan saying two hours ago: "Someone is still attempting to plant malware on my computer."
While I saw no evidence connecting the publications to malware/phishing attacks which target Ryan, perhaps nothing should be ruled impossible. Remember that Jacob Appelbaum got in trouble after he had said NSA agents could be among Debian Developers and there's no way to prove otherwise (it was in the mailing lists). When knife-wielding people (or people who fantasise about stabbing other people) constantly send you threats, even to your wife who is a Debian user, it's hard not to feel like there's a broader/bigger thing going on. This week we suffered the first DDoS attack since moving to a British webhost.
We've dealt with multi-billion-euro interests trying to censor us for a very long time. They will not succeed. █
* Just to be clear, Pocock is not right wing. Far from it. That's just part of an ongoing smear campaign.
