"Streamline Workforce" is the Same as Mass Layoffs, Apparently

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Jul 06, 2024

DAYS ago Microsoft laid off loads of people during a national holiday. Things must be very bad if they resort to this (it breeds resentment and distrust among remaining colleagues). It's generally a taboo. The scale of these layoffs remains unknown to everyone but HR insiders at Microsoft (who are on extended holiday and hard for the media to reach; the media too is on a break). Someone said 1,000 workers were let go. But it's hard to verify this, just as it was last month (another wave of mass layoffs) and last year.

What we found particularly amusing is this misuse of words and euphemisms. Have a look:

Microsoft begins new round of layoffs to streamline workforce

"Streamline" is a synonym of "lay off 1,000 people" now? Come on, we deserve better media than this. Stop parroting lies.
