Europe's Second Largest Institution, the EPO, Exploits Lack of Oversight to Commit Crimes Every Day
Immunity begets impunity, which in turn begets crime
THIS week we're properly resuming EPO coverage. The corrupt politicians Benoît Battistelli and António Campinos are committing crimes with impunity while Campinos boasts he has a law degree (as if it's a licence to break the law). They've granted loads of European software patents - i.e. patents which are both illegal and undesirable - and Battistelli still works in the shadows with Campinos, who is covering up his crimes. How long can the crimes be hidden for? Some have been exposed for everyone to see for over a decade already. Will there be accountability before Battistelli passes away?
Just to be extra clear, a reader has advised us, we need to remind readers how illegal patents are being granted. Or maybe, to quote him, the EPO "'illegally grants invalid European software patents' [as it] is even more clear. It has to be crystal clear every time software patents are mentioned in a European context that they are illegal and, optionally, that they always have been."
"There must be no wiggle room for people to be able to assume that some how software patents are allowed in Europe because that is exactly what the EPO is trying to get people to think by illegally granting the invalid patents in high volume."
They used to say 4IR, blockchain and other buzzwords to justify allowing these sorts of patents; now they use "hey hi" (AI). That's still illegal. They are granting monopolies on maths and even illegally telling examiners to ignore the legal processes. This stunning new revelations should not result in sackings or fines; EPO officials need to be arrested/detained. This is white-collar crime. This is corporate crime.
What does the EU say about itself by tolerating this and even participating? █
