4 Years Since We Started a Plain Text Edition of Techrights (Then Adopted IPFS and Gemini Protocol)
Gemini Protocol isn't changing (sans bugfixes); that's a feature
5 years ago COVID-19 broke out in Wuhan, China (that's the most conventional timeline). Months later parts of the world rushed to lock things down and during the lock-downs we got busy improving the site with a text edition, then IPFS (hosted from home), then Gemini, which hosted both a text edition and a GemText edition of everything.
The earliest text editions of this site are dated late October 2020. They're still available over HTTP/S and Gemini. They not only improve accessibility; they're also a form of backup with "format shifting" (some arcane accents got "bungled" during the migration from WordPress to static pages, but Gemini preserved these fully).
The more interesting anniversary will be a few weeks from now. The site will turn 18. I've already inflated massive silver balloons that spell out "18". We've begun preparations for the "big day". This past weekend we started organising some bits and pieces.
Gemini Protocol will soon turn 5.5. It's still alive and still growing. We still serve many requests over Gemini Protocol every day.
It's not too late to join Gemini Protocol; there has never been a better time. █
