Spooky Future for the World Wide Web
Halloween perspective
WE are only a couple of days away from pagan rituals, or "one of the oldest holidays in the world". As noted at the end of last week, we're gaining pace and today we publish close to 30 new pages. The intention is, at least bearing in mind that news cycles dry up (or resurrect old news), to produce more originals over time. We believe we've become an important FUD-busting hub, focusing on particular topics such as patents, Free software, and the Net.
Geminispace has been reasonably active this month and it grew a lot (about 200 new capsules in one month). This hopefully means that, over time, we'll link more to Gemini and more of our focus (or audience) will be Gemini. As shown earlier today, an unacceptable proportion of Web traffic is abusive and wasteful.
We recently worked on software tools intended to help curate what's left of the Web. Daily Links are an important contribution, we believe, and many Free software (or GNU/Linux) links get posted in the sister site since 2004. We want to keep on top of things, even if the Web became a race to the bottom.
Finally, and perhaps inevitably, the Web will collapse (nothing lasts forever) and we just don't know when or how fast. We just see the writings on the wall. █
