GitHub Will End Up like XBox and Skype
Yesterday at the bank we overheard a lady and her son talking to a worker about "Microsoft" and "Xbox" endlessly. It sounded like they had been scammed and needed the bank's help. The younger son was sitting away from them, playing an obnoxious-sounding handheld console; his brother looked unfit and was quite likely a heavy "gamer" (sort of living in a fantasy world or a shelter in the parents' home).
There are not many "XBox fans" out there, but there are some. They associate accomplishment or personal advancement with some title they play on a computer.
Here in the UK, based on market figures, sales of XBox truly collapsed some years ago. Buying a massive gaming company - or companies - can help fake revenue growth for a while. Then come mass layoffs, on top of massive debt, and XBox is circling down the drain already. It is not likely that the XBox franchise will survive the next 5 years.
Remember Skype? How did it work out? Years after Microsoft took over (it was truly dominant at the time) it was relegated almost to "niche" as WhatsApp and other programs took over.
GitHub has been stagnant and dormant for years already. Now it's being vanished, just like Activision. █
