Elon Musk Has Trashed Twitter for Ideological Reasons (and Propping Up Trump in Exchange for Financial and Political Favours Once in Public Office)

Richard Stallman gave a lecture at my university today

Richard M. Stallman is publicly 'rallying' or urging "that we elect Harris and Walz."

"Since Bernie Sanders and Franklin D Roosevelt are not running for president this year," he writes, "we can't get the sort of president we really need. But we can elect a president who is good on many issues and won't make things worse on the others."

In case you didn't leave Twitter already, consider the fact that Twitter's (or "X"... whatever!) future is uncertain because after mass layoffs comes another wave of layoffs [1-2]. It was in the news just hours ago.

Mr. "Melon" (Musk) seems to have basically trashed what he bought (with help from other plutocrats) and he seeks to 'monetise' it by shifting it to the right because then he hopes to somehow 'cash in' (through other companies and government contracts), assuming Trump gets elected. We do not endorse political candidates (we stay in our lane, as the saying goes), but turning Social Control Media into what seems like a propaganda tool isn't OK. It's not like Twitter was ever truly neutral, but with Musk it got very blatant. As [2] puts it, "all efforts were made to align with supporting Donald Trump campaign for US elections, as well as cuts in this engineering department, and questions are whether that is the final call for restructuring his companies or not."

We don't expect Twitter (or "X"... whatever!) to last longer than a few more years. The company is in debt, it's losing a lot of money, and once the election is over the "business model" of sucking up to Trump (for Musk's personal benefit) will be passé.

Leaving Twitter right now isn't tantamount to loss of audience because Twitter isn't going to last much longer anyway and many users leave in droves already... even right-leaning people get banned. That's partly because of government requests.

What Happened: X is experiencing a fresh wave of layoffs with the engineering department said to be the most affected, reported The Verge on Friday, citing two insider sources and posts on the anonymous workplace forum Blind.

However, the exact number of job cuts is yet to be determined.

The layoffs followed an unusual request made to employees two months prior when staff members were asked to submit a one-page summary detailing their contributions to the company.
