Almost as If MElon Reads Techrights

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Feb 11, 2025

The joke we started appears to be spreading (but it's not exactly a joke):

Musk-led investor group offers $97.4 billion for OpenAI — Altman declines

When Web sites process tens of millions of requests per month it's no longer possible to know who reads them (with small blogs it's possible to identity some friends, family etc.) and so when they coin terms like "openwashing" it's likely many others will adopt these over time, with or without credit.

It's very unlikely that MElon reads this site*, but 's plausible that he "googles things" and maybe he stumbled upon our repeated use of the term "Scam Altman". We even have a substitution rule for it in our RSS software:

-e "s/Sam Altman/Scam Altman/g" \

Due to his broader reach and wide recognition it's likely many people will credit MElon and assume he made that up.
