XBox never really made much money (if any; a lot of the time it was just losses and losses, but Microsoft kept cooking the books [1, 2]). Before Microsoft 'faked' revenue growth in "gaming" (by buying another company for its own revenue) XBox's results were falling off a cliff (down about 50% in one year!) and now that Microsoft has financial problems and mass layoffs (about 7 waves of mass layoffs in 2025) Microsoft tries to ameliorate things by squeezing people like lemons or implementing price hikes about 7 times higher than the inflation rate.
In this case, "enshittification" is an understatement. It's a dead cat bouncing. █
