Birch Lake
My family spent this last weekend (2025-06-13 through 2025-06-15) at Birch Lake, camping with other relatives on my wife's side of the family. This is a recreational park about 40 or 50 minutes drive SE of Fairbanks, near Salcha. I was able to take a few botanical and ornithological notes.

Deciding what to write, deciding what to do
I've been half-writing a handful of posts over the last couple weeks, but nothing has quite measured up to what I want to post. I want the things I write to be well thought through, holding myself to too high a standard, as per usual.
On the plus side, I have a lot of cool IRL things going on at the moment. Joined a second band to play drums in. I was really uncertain whether I'd stick with music last summer, but now that I've forgiven myself for not being a super-prolific songwriter and am instead just focusing on jamming with friends, it's been more enjoyable. It's less about being an incredible creative beyond reproach, and more about the social aspect, which I think is what I needed. I did pick up my guitar a bit this week, and worked some new ideas, but I've put it away again; I think that's going to be the path going forward.

200 microgram of lsd
I had just done a mushroom trip the day before, and for some reason I had a puff of DMT during the day, so when we started the acid trip, I didn't feel much. I though that maybe the lsd wasn't strong because of the psylocibe might have counter act the lsd.

forest troll
I am a forest troll disguised as a woman sometimes not at all the quietly intelligent, elegant ethereal being someone would want gliding around the house feet barely touching the floor I am chubby and clumsy and awkward hair tangled by squirrels while napping on the lawn legs full of mosquito bites and scratches from raspberry bushes I accidentally stumble into I step out of my high heels tiny specks of grass on feet and sand between toes soles of my feet on the cool damp ground the hem of my dress collecting morning dew as I wander the forest gazing at the sky

At Loon Pond, take 2
The entrance of this trail is tightly woven with short trees, shrubs and wildflowers, and it signals to the hiker, *Cast away your personal space, ye who enter*s. I have to duck under branches, bob through thickets of greenbrier and young goldenrod shoots, climb past a massive fallen tree, and at the edge of an opening I must pause— I'm staring at the center of an orbweaver web and at once I am also looking through it and everything behind looks tessellated and refracted, as if I'm looking through stained glass or a layer of soap water suspended in the web itself. The unfocused background is not uniform: it isn't as if there's just a layer of blurriness applied to everything, but instead there are cracks and fissures where there are areas of more and less focus, pooling around certain plants. Spring avens, bedstraw, multiflora rose. I cut through dense forest to avoid disturbing the spider’s abode.

Scaling philosophy (for old games)
As you can see he’s pretty small. That’s because he was made in 1992 for a NES game with 240p resolution.
If we wanna play his game on screens with higher resolution, we have two options. Scale him up, or, make our screen emulate a lower-resolution screen.
