Slopwatch: WebProNews and Google News Promoting Fake Articles About "Linux"

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Aug 16, 2025

Today's "Slopwatch" is based on what Google News is presenting this past hour as news about "Linux". It got severely bad.

Two picks from the WebProNews slopfarm are targeting "OpenBSD" and "Linux":

Slop or fake: OpenBSD vs Linux: Analyzing the 10x Speed Claim in Benchmarks

Slop or fake: Proton VPN Adds Split Tunneling to Linux App for Better Control

Suffice to say, the images and text above are fake. Can nobody at Google see this, detect the issue, and act accordingly? Apparently not. Or maybe they just simply don't care.

They've also just propelled another slopfarm, this one presenting an issue with Windows/DLL files as "Linux":

Slop or fake: Cobalt Strike for everyone with CrossC2! We’re paying attention to Linux servers without EDR

It's the same in this slopfarm, also promoted by Google News:

Slop or fake: CrossC2 Enables Cobalt Strike to Go Multi-Platform – Linux and macOS Now in the Crosshairs

The above is fake; and its sister site (slopfarm):

Slop or fake: Threat Actors Leverage CrossC2 to Extend Cobalt Strike to Linux and macOS

Same network of slopfarms having a go at "Linux":

Slop or fake: New FireWood Malware Attacking Linux Systems to Execute Commands and Exfiltrate Sensitive Data

Slop or fake: FireWood Malware Emerges – New Linux Threat Executes Remote Commands and Steals Data

Like the third slopfarm of this network, it's just repetition and permutation with slop images.

Google News is being flooded by these slopfarms, so when Linux news is being sought online (via Google News) many people will read bots that spew out FUD. They'll miss the actual news.
