Slopwatch: LinuxSecurity, Brian Fagioli, and WebProNews

posted by Roy Schestowitz on Nov 14, 2025

Tonight's Slopwatch starts with LinuxSecurity. The site used to publish more slop. It used to have real names associated with the slop. Not anymore.

See, the output has been more scarce lately and it's from a pseudonym:

Slop or fake: Keylogging in Linux (Part 1): Understanding Attacks and Defenses

LinuxSecurity will learn the hard way that becoming a slopfarm is a site's suicide.

The same goes for Brian Fagioli, who seems to be ripping off real coverage to come up with LLM slop and slop images:

Slop or fake: SparkyLinux 8.1 makes Debian 13 shine for everyday Linux users

Hours after this article (posted by Marius Nestor) Fagioli published some more slop:

Slop or fake: Thunderbird 145 drops 32-bit Linux support as it embraces Exchange and modern email standards

He's trying to wiggle his way into sites like Slashdot, where he submits links to his slopfarm. Then he tries to use Slashdot - as in the brand - to legitimise his slop.

Terrible stuff!

Speaking of terrible stuff, if you search Google News for "linux" news you're find WebProNews all over the place. It's a slopfarm with fake text, fake images, and fake author names. Some hours ago Google News spewed out 8 results (for "linux") from this slopfarm, including this topic turned into slop:

Slop or fake: Rust’s Sudo Overhaul Backfires: Security Flaws Rock Ubuntu 25.10

Many Phoronix ripoffs:

Slop or fake: Alpha’s Linux Lifeline: New Maintainer Breathes Life into 30-Year-Old Chip Legacy

Slop or fake: ARM64’s Atomic Meltdown: Linux 6.18’s Fix for a Hidden Performance Killer

Slop or fake: Linux’s Push to Power Up Multi-Battery Gaming Gear

Slop or fake: Linux Kernel’s SHA-1 Purge: Bolstering Security in a Collision-Prone World

Promoting malware:

Slop or fake: Kaspersky’s Linux Leap: Antivirus Enters Home Turf Amid Global Tensions

Some openwashing:

Slop or fake: Google’s Pixel 10 Leap: Mainline Linux Kernel Support Signals Open-Source Shift

And slop that's helping Microsoft with the googlebombing against KDE's and Nitrux's "maui":

Slop or fake: Avalonia Powers MAUI’s Leap to Linux and Web: A .NET Revolution

If Google News fails to keep slop under control (i.e. delisted), then fewer people will bother with Google News.
