Jonathan D. G. Jones Promotes Monopoly on Food, BBC Gives Him a Platform

Monsanto booster

Summary: The (patent-protected) apple falls not far from the tree as GMO proponent turns out to be funded by Monsanto and the MSBBC (commercially motivated) gives him room without giving a necessary disclosure

A Monsanto proponent, who is close to Monsanto (Monsanto is his employer's "top customer and collaborator," say critics), has just been given a spot in the MSBBC [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9] -- a spot from which to pitch and preach for the criminal activities of the GMO companies while belittling its opponents. We have written a lot about Monsanto, especially because Bill Gates is its proponent and stakeholders. For background, see:

Here is the short rebuttal from Slashdot, regarding the latest 'advertisement' from the MSBBC.

"The BBC today characterized those who avoid GM foods as overly fussy, the very same day that the Wall Street Journal announced that picky eating may be recognized in the 2013 DSM as a psychiatric disorder. The DSM item refers to something completely different, though I'm sure many will confuse the two. Of course, this was not done without subterfuge; the BBC's author, Professor Jonathan Jones, in no way indicates his close ties to Monsanto. Point by point Jones regurgitates the same pro-GM arguments debunked numerous times all over the net for years, while serving up some stale half facts too."

A few days ago we also gathered new evidence that the MSBBC promotes the interests of the 'entertainment' industry (Copyright Cartel) while suppressing voices of the other side. According to this UK-based lawyers blog, Monsanto continues to abuse its monopoly on food, harming both farmers and people who eat (that's everybody) in the process:

In short Monsanto, the world’s biggest seed company, sought to rely on a European patent for its Roundup Ready soy beans as a means of preventing the importation into the European Union of soy meal from Argentina. The question at the heart of the dispute was whether the patent, for soy beans that are resistant to some herbicides (notably Roundup), extends to soy meal made from the patented seeds. Argentina, the world’s third-biggest soy bean exporter after Brazil and the US, is one of the few countries in which Monsanto had no patent coverage for its herbicide-resistant seeds.

Historically, Monsanto is largely rejected in Europe, but with a lot of cronies in the United States government and the FDA (so-called 'revolving door' principles) it has managed to put dangerous products including carcinogens in the US market, sometimes without labelling. Thanks to promotion by rich families like Rockefeller and Gates, Monsanto also expands its monopoly to Africa and India. They need to be stopped. It's about patents in people's soil -- otherwise a basic right to many.
