Bonum Certa Men Certa

EPO Scandals Are Closely Connected to the UPC Folly

Cuno Tarfusser

Summary: The lack of law at the EPO, Europe's second-largest institution, is a symptom of the sorts of things we saw in Germany since summertime until Christmas (lobbyists of the lucrative patent litigation sector have infiltrated and captured agenda-setting seats)

THIS ought to be said more often, but Team UPC will never admit that its mischief is deeply connected to EPO abuses, which are excused by the very same entities that enabled Benoît Battistelli and nowadays censor/suppress comments critical of António Campinos. The last thing they want is someone like a former ICC judge (true story by the way, that's Cuno Tarfusser at the top) entering the EPO and following the paper trail/paperwork, only to find endless instances of corruption, misuse of power, and even serious crimes that merit long prison sentences. If the EPO restores lawfulness, far fewer patents will be granted, examiners will do their job more properly (as they used to and still long for), and patent maximalist agenda will be ended, including the unlawful and unconstitutional UPC.

Siegfried BroßWe know it's Christmas Eve already and examiners would rather focus on their family (personal life than than work). But the news about UPC is very fresh and rather refreshing. Any time actual judges (and Justices) step in they express the sorts of horrors they find. That includes retired judges, such as one who openly and stubbornly defended SUEPO (Siegfried Broß, on the right). Where is he now?

Sometimes we hope he can step up and appear again in the German media; but if the media too has been thoroughly corrupted, will it offer a platform (air time) to Broß?
