THE previous post about GitHub -- a guest post we might add -- was a rebuttal to weak arguments we occasionally hear from people who use (or are rather used by) GitHub and defend this dependence on Microsoft's 'mercy' (it has none).
"It's CodePlex "take 2"..."This morning I turned on the camera and recorded a quick video (no preparations) about reasons why GitHub isn't just unneeded but likely undesirable in all cases (except for Microsoft employees). It's CodePlex "take 2"...
Will Git go away because of GitHub? Unlikely. But we need to make sure more people and more projects use and properly understand Git, not proprietary tooling of monopolistic Microsoft. Don't let Embrace, Extend, Extinguish (E.E.E.) tactics take advantage of those too 'sheepish' to understand Microsoft's history.
The unfortunate thing is, right now it's not exactly safe to roam around town, so getting a better camera is not a priority and lighting is a big problem, a longstanding issue, not just the appalling crispness. If we persist with this publication form, which seems likely, then some time after the server migration we'll get better equipment. ⬆
