Again, we can mention Emacs and orgmode if we talk about organization, tasks and projects management, scheduling, knowledge management, all of which are important in any field. Losing these will impact my skills.

Back in late 90s, early 00s maybe, a friend from high school handled me a cdrom and told me: €«So you are on that “linux” thing, you should try this€». It was a copy of BeOS. It got nothing to do with Linux, apart from not being Windows.
Anyway, more than being on ‘that “linux” thing‘ I was like ‘let’s try them all!‘ (try any operating system that was available, at least for a couple of days). So, I’ve made a partition on my disk, installed and tried for a couple of days. My first impression was the speed, BeOS was fast. Everything was even smoother than with linux on a regular PC of the Win9x/Me era. It was also visually pretty, at least for the GUIs available at that time. Unfortunately it was discontinued.

As mentioned, the biggest new feature in the Lutris 0.5.10 release is support for Valve’s Steam Deck gaming handheld device, allowing owners to install and play even more games on their Steam Decks, from sources like GOG, Epic Game Store, or even the Lutris website.
While a Flatpak version is still in the works, Steam Deck users will have to install Lutris from the Arch Linux and AUR repositories, but you’ll have to disable the read-only flag of your Deck’s system drive.

deepin is one of the prettiest Linux distributions, and many people use it every day. Unfortunately, there is a big problem with the operating system -- it is developed in China. While the Chinese people are good, the government of that country is not -- it oppresses its citizens and censors a lot of information. And so, some people are wary of using any Chinese-made software. That is understandable.
Normally I am OK with using deepin Linux, despite its Chinese roots, as it is largely open source. However, with version 20.5, I am a bit hesitant. You see, the newest variant of the operating system adds optional facial recognition for gaining access to your computer. This is similar to Microsoft's Windows Hello -- something I use regularly. But Microsoft is a USA company. When it comes to deepin, can we trust China with our faces?

There have been plenty of arguments comparing Android and iOS, but what if you want an alternative? There used to be quite the competition when it came to smartphone OSes, but Windows Mobile, Fire OS, and, Blackberry have all gone the way of the Dodo. Most people think that the big two that are left are the only choice, but you don’t have to be stuck with Apple and Google.
There are a few big caveats to using an iOS or Android alternative. You’re not going to have a wide selection of devices to choose from, and they’re frequently not flagship-level phones. You also won’t get the enormous app selection you get from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Support can be spotty as well, depending on what choice you make.
However, it is entirely possible to sever yourself from the Android and iOS ecosystems. We’ll list a few of the best alternatives below.

Two good examples of solutions that are being built to support open data and the sustainable reuse of public sector information are the Open Data Support initiative (https://www.opendatasupport.eu/) and the Fosseps programme (https://joinup.ec.europa.eu/collection/fosseps).
Open Data Support is a 36 month project (under DG CONNECT of the European Commission) to improve visibility of, and facilitate access to, datasets published on local and national open data portals, to increase their re-use within and across borders. It is based on the principle that a piece of data or content is ‘open’ if anyone is free to use, reuse, and redistribute it, with possible requirements to attribute its source.
FOSSEPS stands for Free and Open Source Solutions for European Public Services. Today is April Fool's day and also when the C++ best practices game jam begins. This is interesting because the Jam provides a modern multiplatform C++ starter project setup using multiple dependencies. I though it would be illuminating to convert it to build with Meson and compare the results with a modern build setup as opposed to one that has gathered unfortunate cruft for years. The original project can be found in this repo whereas my Meson conversion is here (I only tested it on Linux, though it "should work" on all platforms).

A Turkish journalist and his brother were victims of a daytime attack in the northern Dutch city of Zwolle on Wednesday, media outlets reported. The two victims, identified as H.T. and his brother A.T., were killed after a gunman opened fire in a McDonald's restaurant.
Witnesses told local broadcaster RTL Oost the men were having a meal when the gunman walked into the restaurant and fired shots at them in an apparent "targeted" attack. "The man first ordered a meal and sat at a table across from the two victims before shooting," RTL Oost added. Amazon spent $4.3 million over the past year trying to snuff out pro-labor sentiment, according to HuffPost, citing U.S. Labor Department documents the company filed on Thursday. High on its radar was Chris Smalls, a former Amazon worker at JFK8 who organized a strike over lack of protective measures for workers in the early days of the coronavirus pandemic. The company fired Smalls, claiming he flouted social distancing guidelines. He, along with JFK8 employee Derrick Palmer, launched a unionization campaign that many commentators believed would have a slim chance of success. Besides Amazon’s ample war chest to fight such efforts, another reason, Smalls explained, was the high turnover rate at the company. But along the way, the union drive seemed to gain traction after Amazon executives discussed smearing Smalls as “not smart or articulate,” and after Smalls and two others were arrested while attempting to deliver food to Amazon workers.
The 67 ballots that were challenged by either Amazon or the ALU were not enough to sway the outcome. About 57% of the more than 8,300 workers on the voter list cast their ballots.
Federal labor officials said the results of the count won’t be verified until they process any objections that both parties may file. Any objections are due by April 8.
