      • It all adds up

I think it might seem that way by forgetting we're all constantly lying/cheating/deceiving in gobs of little ways that seem harmless in and of themselves, especially when others aren't looking (e.g. throw the cigarette butt out the car window), but integrated over time and masses appear as consequences incongruent with the nature of the underlying "harmless in and of themselves" ways.

In other words, we posit *far* better actors as the individuals in crowds, therein becoming confounded when their collective behavior somehow doesn't reflect the individuals we posited....

        • Random Articles on Gemipedia

I love getting feedback on the things I make. It absolutely makes my day. It's also a steady source of suggestions on how to improve things. Yesterday I got an email from Santiago asking to add a "Random Article" function to Gemipedia to use for discovery. This will redirect you to random articles on Wikipedia.

So when I went to add a `GetRandomArticle()` method to our Wikipedia API client, I was surprised to find it already existed! Turns out, I had added this functionality last year without directly exposing it to the user and I had completely forgotten! I used it to stress test my Wikipedia HTML parser. Wikipedia is full of gross HTML (Table's used to t create 2 column layouts, etc.).

      • Software Releases/Announcements

        • Zond 0.4.0 release

I've release Zond version 0.4.0. Zond is a static capsule builder which works much like Jekyll, Hugo or Zola but for Gemini. It's the software that builds and maintains this capsule. This release sees a number of small improvements plus support for translations using gettext and Tinylog support. Release binaries are available for Linux x86_64 and aarch64 and for FreeBSD on x86_64, and are available on Codeberg, it's Github mirror and over gemini and spartan on this capsule.

* Gemini (Primer) links can be opened using Gemini software. It's like the World Wide Web but a lot lighter.

There's no guarantee that writing the truth will result in an audience (or readership), but over time - in the long run - people generally gravitate towards what they know or feel to be crude truth, not just what's comforting (albeit false or self-deluding, usually groupthink dictated from above)
