The "F" in Free Software Doesn't Stand for "Censorship"; Attempts to Censor Mere Links to Articles About DebConf22 in Kosovo

Pireva - Podujevë

The censorship went as far as contacting people who merely link to an article, accusing them of "libelous allegations" (for mere links!)

THE FOLLOWING message, sent using Google (or using GMail), was sent to me almost exactly 2 years ago. It's about an article we'll reproduce here later this week.

Dear Roy,

We're writing to you with regard to the libelous allegations in this posting http://www.tuxmachines.org/node/162969

FLOSSK is the local organizer of DebConf22. Allegations posted on https://debian.communiy and reposted on TuxMachines.org are preposterous and put in bad light our women members and friends. They are unacceptable to us, and should be to you as well. We believe the original post is by Daniel Pocock, about whom we have received numerous complaints from members and friends.

We strive for equal opportunity. Everyone that we pay accomodation for including all the organizers will be accommodated at the Innovation and Training Park Prizren. Others are also welcome to join us there for a reasonable price.

We ask that you delete this posting as soon as possible and issue an apology.

Thanks,
Arianit

This was two years ago. I responded immediately in IRC and highlighted these censorship attempts. I chose not to keep quiet about it and did not obey this request to censor people.

I don't live in Kosovo and even if I lived in Kosovo, linking to an article would not be in violation of any law.

Daniel Pocock has exposed men who treated women badly. These men who treated women badly have in turn attacked and defamed Mr. Pocock in hopes of distracting from how badly they treat (e.g. exploit) women. We saw this pattern lots of times before, typically in political contexts.
